Crane Operator Killed at Wynn Casino Site in Everett
A crane operator died early Wednesday at Massachusetts General Hospital, less than a day after he was rushed in for care following an accident. The man had been working at the Wynn Boston Harbor site for a subcontractor hired by project lead Suffolk Construction.
The Boston Herald reported that the worker was crushed when a piece of material fell onto the cab of the crane the man was operating.
The Occupatonal Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) had inspectors at the construction site alongside the Mystic River in Everett on Wednesday morning.
Approximately 1,500 workers are on the job site each workday. This is the first death to occur as a result of work at the site and the second serious accident reported since the start of the year. In January, a mason fell down an open elevator shaft and suffered serious injuries. The mason is expected to recover.
The Wynn Boston Harbor is the largest single-phase construction project in Massachusetts history, with a projected opening date in June 2019.
